" READY "
Captains for 2010/11 Sandie Klimcke and Jeff Thomas have chosen "READY" for their Charity fundraising for the year. "READY'S" prime objective is to allow those less able than ourselves to take part in and enjoy sports, sporting events and recreation with as much independence as possible.
The Charity raise funds by every means it can, to help provide young people, up to 21 years of age who are disabled in some way, with access to recreation and sporting facilities and to help them participate in any form. This is achieved by joining forces with local businesses, youth clubs, sporting venues, clubs and other charity organisations, to raise funds and provide assistance with access ramps, disabled toilets, changing facilities, specialist sporting and recreation equipment.
The greatest joy for any disabled young person is to be able to compete or take part in an event or sport on equal terms and with out help, something able bodied people take for granted. The desire to achieve and succeed is a common human trait and no less in those who are disabled. The problem is that it is costly to provide specialist equipment, help, support and specialist services.
" They seek independence, help us to help them achieve it "
Captains for 2008/09 were Sheila Ellis and John Rundell, the charity they choose to support was "Wooden Spoon". Wooden Spoon is a children’s charity founded in 1983 that is dedicated to helping underprivileged children and young people all over the UK and Ireland to live happier, richer lives. John and Shiela, along with the help of many friends and members did a wonderful job last year and raised a huge amount to support the Surrey branch of Wooden Spoon.
Recently the Charity opened a new suite designed to meet the needs of children and young people aged from 5 to 19, who have autistic spectrum conditions with additional moderate and severe learning disabilities. Sadly Sheila was away and unable to attend the grand opening so Ian Mitchell, president of the club, proudly took her place.
This is what he had to say about the event:
"I attended the opening ceremony of the new building CHASE at Christophers yesterday and enjoyed the occasion. I was introduced to John Inverdale, who performed the opening, and met other Wooden Spooners and people from Chase and one of the parents of one of the children who attend Chase.
Many people expressed their gratitude for the efforts of the Captains and members of CRGC and explained that without this sort of help, they could not function.
There is a plaque on the wall outside the Family Apartment in the new building to commemorate the occasion and to recognise the assistance of Wooden Spoon and Clandon Regis Golf Club."
